The Asantehene and Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has urged the club’s management to sort out the future of coach Bashir Hayford before it negatively affects the club’s output on the field.

The Porcupine Warriors are due to play El Merreikh of Sudan in the Caf Confederations Cup on Sunday but the future of Bashir Hayford remains the subject of constant speculation.

Now the most powerful voice in the club and traditional ruler of the Ashanti Kingdom which owns the club has told the club’s management to clarify the coach’s future for the good of the club.

“Listening to the coach speak, I could feel a sense of insecurity on his part and this I am sure will negatively affect his performance and delivery, he said at a club gathering.

“I have been hearing a lot of reports about his problems at the club with the latest being the news that he could be replaced.”

“If it is that you are not satisfied with his performance, I recommend that in the spirit of transparency, you call him and ask the appropriate questions. That is better than he having to deal with grape vine stories about his future at Kotoko.”

The King’s words were the clearest indication of the growing tension between the coach and management over a number of issues that have upset him including his status at the club beyond which is yet to be upgraded after he took over from Telat Uzum last year.

But the Asantehene’s influence in the club means the public discussion of the matter could lead to a resolution soon.
