Free State Stars head coach David Duncan is to part ways with the club just three months after arriving from Ghana club AshantiGold and former Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars coach Owen da Gama is expected to take over with immediate effect.

Duncan’s tiff with Ea Lla Koto emanates from the recent appointment of Da Gama as technical advisor at the club.

Da Gama has been with Stars for the past two weeks and he could take the reigns along with assistant coach Sammy Troughton.

“David left the club on Friday. He told us that he cannot work with Owen, or under anybody for that matter, but as a club we are standing by with what we have done because Owen’s appointment was relevant.

“Duncan says he doesn’t work in such an environment. So at this stage we have had a verbal agreement with him that he is leaving,” says Rantsi Mokoena, Stars’ brand manager.

The outspoken Duncan has had a tumultuous relationship with his assistant Sammy Troughton, who has even chosen to shift away from the club because of the bad blood he has with the Ghanaian.

Apparently Troughton’s input wasn’t valued by Duncan.
When contacted Duncan sounded cagey, referring KickOff.com to the club.

“You can get confirmation from the club. I am still here, so I wouldn’t say yes or no at this stage about whether I am still the coach or not,” Duncan told KickOff.com on Monday morning.

Pressed further Duncan then choose to end the conversation.

“Look, I am at the Stars office at the moment so can we talk later,” he said before dropping his cellphone.

Duncan has already brought in two players from his homeland, Jonathan Mensah and David Telfar, who may also be released immediately.
