Bernard Don Bortey could be back at Accra Hearts of Oak after his ten month contract with Bnei Sakhin in Israel was terminated after only ten months.

The former international with a habit to self destruct when all is going well is due back in Accra to plan his next move and claims he could be heading for Spain where Deportivo La Coruna, he claims have expressed interest in him.

“After our Intertoto Cup game against Deportivo, they expressed interest in me so I am coming down to Accra to sort out the visa and travel arrangements and head to Spain,” he told Happy FM in Accra.

Bortey’s claim of interest by La Coruna has been strongly disputed but what is not in doubt is his status as a Bnei player now.

The official line is that Bortey has been released on his own request after the death of his son but KickofffGhana.com understands that he had problems adjusting to life in Sakhin, an Arab village in Israel and struggled to get on with his team-mates.

But it was his inability to convince new coach Freddi David that ultimately led to the parting of ways.

Bortey was recommended to Sakhin by former Hearts of Oak coach Eyal Lachman. David was appointed after Bortey had been signed and decided after the Intertoto Cup game against Deportivo La Coruna that he did not need the Ghanaian with a poor attitude to training.

His latest problems in Israel will come as little surprise to those who have followed his career. Undoubtedly talented, Bortey was a bigger star as a teen in Ghana than Michael Essien.

Yet he has picked up one feud or the other along the line and turned in two brilliant performances only to go missing for even more days.

As is so often the case Hearts of Oak could now provide another platform in the domestic game.
