Kumasi Asante Kotoko assistant coach Johnson Smith is eagerly awaiting the return of his boss Bashir Hayford who will return to club duties after the burial of his wife this weekend.
Smith guided Kotoko through two tough games against Al-Ittihad of Libya to take Kotoko through to the League stages of the Confederations Cup last Sunday but says it was hard without his boss.
Now he is hopeful the return of the main man and reinforcements will make the Porcupine Warriors a much better unit.
“Two heads are better than one so I am looking forward to his return,” he said.
“It will make the team better and stronger in the group stage of the competition.”
Kotoko will need all their resources in the next phase after they were grouped with 2007 Champions League winners Etoile du Sahel, another former African champion JS Kabylie and last year’s losing finalist in the Confederations Cup, El-Merreikh.
Kotoko’s first game will be away to Etoile in Sousse in two weeks time but it is the home games that Smith thinks holds the key to victory.
“We have been drawn against North African teams again and it will be tough,” he said.
“But in Kumasi we have the advantage of a terrific crowd who have played a significant part to get us here so far.”
