Former Black Stars striker Isaac Boakye has been recalled by VFL Wolfsburg for the upcoming Bundesliga season after spending the first part of the year on loan at Mainz 05.

Mainz had the option of extending the 100,000 Euro loan deal but Wolfsburg have decided they need the Ghanaian at the Volkswagen Arena instead.

And Boakye is keen to impress this time. He joined Wolfsburg in 2006 after three successful seasons at Armenia Bielefeld where he scored 24 times in 61 games. But he has been ravaged by injuries and fell out with Felix Magath who decided to farm him out to Mainz.

If he impresses for the side that finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, it could open the door for a return to the Black Stars for the player.

The former Asante Kotoko man is a fan favourite but he turned down one invitation too many to play for the Black Stars in the past prompting former coach Claude LeRoy to declare the 26-year old will never play for the Black once he remained coach.

With LeRoy out of the way, Boakye could play himself back into contention if he can fire in the goals for Wolfsburg in the upcoming season.
