Al-Ain coach Aurelian Cosmin he will pick Asamoah Gyan on any day to take penalty kicks for his side despite criticisms back home.

Gyan has come under attack for missing from the spot in Ghana's 2012 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final exit.

The Black Stars striker failed to score from the penalty spot during Ghana's 1-0 semi-final defeat to eventual champions Zambia in Bata. He also missed from the spot in the quarter-final of the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay.

Some fans are also seeking to have him barred from taking penalty kicks for the Black Stars but Cosmin offers a different view about the striker's ability.

“Things should go natural and as they should be. It is illogical to condemn a player like Gyan for missing a penalty kick,” the Al-Ain coach said.

“I still believe in him so I will choose him for any penalty kick we have. I have a good relationship with Gyan.

And the Romanian coach expects Gyan to find his confidence once more.

“I still remember his problem of not scoring when he joined Al Ain first.

“He was [not] feeling good for not scoring, so I asked him to stop thinking about the subject and to think of his future with Al Ain. I assured him many times that he will be in the right way as long as he performs well in field with his players.

“Sooner Gyan scored and overcame all his sadness until he reached nine goals out of nine matches then he left to his national team.” Cosmin said about Gyan.

Meanwhile Gyan has offered an apology for his miss from the spot at the Nations Cup.

Gyan admits being hurt and says the miss was never on purpose.

"I'd like to apologise to the fans," he said.

"It's been very difficult for me. I'd never miss a penalty on purpose.

"It's now two of the biggest penalties in my country's history and it's difficult to take.

"I've been unlucky. We all miss them. Fans should know it's not easy. [Didier] Drogba missed in the final.

"(Samuel) Eto'o has missed before. It's happened to the greatest before, I'm sorry."
