The Minister for Youth and Sports Akua Sena Dansua has in a statement advised Ghanaians not to implicate Government in the ongoing investigations at the Ghana Football Association, which led to the raiding of its offices on Tuesday December 7.
There have been attempts to link Government and the Sports Ministry to the latest development since it appears to be on warpath with the GFA over some issues.
Not too long ago, there was an attempt by some Government officials to replace Mr. Nyantakyi, the GFA President with Abedi Pele, for a top post at the Confederation of African Football, CAF. But the Sports Ministry says it has no hand in the investigations by EOCO at the GFA.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ attention has been drawn to on-going investigations by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the subsequent retrieval of documents and computers from the offices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)”.
A statement signed by the Sector Minister, Akua Sena Dansua, said “the action of EOCO is not at the request of government”, explaining that the EOCO, under Act 804, is a specialized agency which monitors, investigates and prosecutes economic and organized crime. “As an independent organization, the EOCO’s actions in the GFA matter cannot and should not be attributed to government”.
The statement dismissed claims by officials of the GFA and some commentators that the work of the EOCO amounts to “government’s interference in the affairs of the GFA.”
