The Ministry of Youth and Sports says it is hopeful amendments to sections of the SMC decree 54 in Parliament Monday can lead to a lifting of the IOC ban on the country.

The amendment of the decree means executives of the various national sports associations will no longer be appointed but elected in conformity with the rules of international governing bodies.

The SMC Decree was applied by the government to constitute new officers of the Ghana Olympic Committee last year in breach of the IOC Charter.

This led to the international body banning the country from taking part in its activities.

Spokesperson of the Sports Ministry, Akwesi Sarpong, says he now expects the IOC ban to be reversed.
