This year's Western Regional Republic Day Open Golf Championship tees off at the Takoradi Golf Course on Tuesday, July 1 in the Western Region.

Mr George Lee Mensah, Captain of the Takoradi Golf Club, told GNA Sports in Accra that the one-day 18-Hole event, which is open to golfers from Benso, Tarkwa, Takoradi and Kumasi Golf Clubs, would be sponsored by Total Ghana Limited.

He said about 80 golfers are expected to participate in the event, which will be played in accordance with the local rules of the Ghana Golf Association.

Mr Lee Mensah said the competition has Handicap 14 and 28 as the entry requirements with very attractive prizes put at stake.

He said the large entry of participants that have registered this year has been due to the successful hosting of last year's event and expressed the hope that interest in the competition and the sports would continue to grow year after year.

Five prizes would be awarded in the Men's Division with three going in the Ladies category. Officials from Total Ghana Limited are expected to grace the occasion.
